Marshall McLuhan, a media studies pioneer who forever changed the way we think of communication, once stated that each invention or technology is an extension or self-amputation of our physical bodies. What would happen if machines where creative? Would we end up cutting off our imaginations and becoming creative vegetables? If a machine made art, who would be the artist? - the machine or the person who built it? Will machines one day have loyal fans? Hold art exhibitions? Be sold at auctions for millions of dollars?
This project is an exploration of artificial creativity and creativity in general. We will probably not come to any general agreements. But we will make sure to raise a lot of thought-provoking questions. By logging on to the site and interacting with either the Choir Machine, that is located in Stockholm, or the Quartet Machine, that is located in New York city, you will be able to experience what it would be like if machines where real creative creatures.
